BBC iPlayer and HTML5

Last Updated: Oct 19, 2015 05:11PM EDT

Having issues with BBC iPlayer? One reason might be due to loading content with the HTML5 player. Although Tunlr will have integrated the ability to play content from the HTML 5 player when it becomes the standard for streaming content on BBC, we have not added this ability yet.

To get around this you will need to ensure that you are not opted in to the BBC HTML5 player.

How to Check if you are Using the HTML5 BBC iPlayer

Go directly the BBC HTM5 Player Beta Page

  • Go to the following link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/html5
  • View the upper right black box (button) where it will read either "Opt into the HTML5 Player" or "Opt out of the HTML5 Player"
  • If the message reads "Opt out of the HTML5 Player", then this means you are using the HTML5 Player. You will need to unselect this by clicking on the same button so that the "Opt in to the HTML5 Player" message appears.
  • If the message reads "Opt in to the HTML5 Player", then you do not need to do anything.
